Assignment: Identity.

Brief: Designer clothes and label culture, play a large part in contemporary clothing identities and self-image. It is argued that this emphasis on branding and brands has led to clothing, which restricts individuality and the image of individuals. However, group and tribal identity has played a large part in changing fashion and creating individual looks such as the mods of the 1960s and punks of the 1970s. Both Mary Quant and Vivienne Westwood being an image for you or for another. 

1. Begin by exploring the notion of Identity. There are no right or wrong approches and the box below gives you some starting points.

2. Develop your thinking and research in your sketchbook. Your sketchbook should develop as a diary of personal thoughts, ideas, concepts and approaches. 

3. You can collect work of other artists, interesting quotes, images, mark making experiments, but make sure you make notes evaluating and commenting on what you are doing throught the sketchbook.

4. Choose a final outcome and develop this into a final work. 

Starting Points: One image of an individual can never be truly representative of them, their personality or character. Create either several identities for yourself, or another, which explores different characters or characteristics. Consider the DIY clothing of punk, its history, create a piece of wearable sculpture/clothing, constructed from found and recycled items, including fabricks, caedboard, plastics and metals. Consider the work of Hussein Chalayan, Afterworks 2000, the images of Cindy Sherman and Helen Van Meene. Leigh Bowery Looks: Photographs 1998-1994 Pub Thames and Hudson 2005. 

Work on the project I began for mind map. I put there my ideas and inspiring people.
When I am thinking about identity, individualism the first thing are fashion icons. People who make their own, individual style and thanks to this forever etched into history. I've put portraits of this people in my sketchbook. I would like to present the results on this blog.

Polski: Mam do zrobienia nowy projekt na Uniwersytecie. Motyw przewodni to tozsamosc. 

Krotki opis tematu: Markowe ubrania i 'metkowa kultura' pelnia duza role we wspolczesnej tozsamosci i kreowaniu wlasnego wizerunku. Twierdzi sie ze ten nacisk na marki i producentow doprowadzil do tworzenia odziezy, ktora ogranicza indywidualnosc. Jednakze tozsamosc grupowa i plemienna odegrala duza role w kreowaniu indywidualnego wizerunku i zmienianiu mody, tak jak modsi w latach 60tych i punki w 70tych. Obydwie- Mary Quant and Vivienne Westwood sa na to dobrym przykladem. 

Moim zadaniem jest zbadanie tematu TOZSAMOSC, w kazdym projekcie najczesciej zaczynam od zrobienia tzw. mind map-mapy mysli, na ktorej umieszczam wszystkie swoje skojarzenia, pomysly, interesujace postaci, pojecia, wydarzenia...ktore pozniej moge rozwinac wykonujac research. Informacji szukam najczesciej w bibliotece uniwersyteckiej, ktora jest bardzo bogato wyposazona, mozna tam znalezc naprawde interesujace tytuly, sa nawet archiwalne wydania gazet takich jak Vogue, Harpers Bazaar itd. gdy to nie wystarcza dodatkowych wiadomosci szukam w internecie. Wszystko co znajde umieszczam w 'sketchbooku', ktory jest swego rodzaju pamietnikiem na te 4 tygodnie(bo tyle mam czasu na wykonanie projektu) i obrazuje moja droge do wykonania ostatecznego zadania. W tym przypadku jest to wykonanie jakiejs czesci garderoby metoda DIY, ze znalezionych produktow, metalu, plastiku itd. 

Gdy mysle o tozsamosci, indywidualizmie od razu na mysl przychodza mi ikony mody. Osoby, ktore dzieki kreatywnosci i potrzebie wyrozniania sie z tlumu stworzyly swoj wlasny, indywidualny styl i dzieki temu na zawsze wpisaly sie w historie. W swoim sketchbooku stworzylam portrety osob, ktore wedlug mnie odegraly ogromna role w przemysle modowym. Uwazam, ze kazda osoba, ktora interesuje sie moda w wiekszym stopniu, niz na poziomie shoppingu powinna miec podstawowe pojecie o takich ludziach jak... Mary Quant, Vivienne Westwood, Johny Rotten, Catherine Hamnet, Audrey Hepbrum, Jacquline Kennedy i wielu, wielu innych. Na lamach bloga chcialabym krotko przedstawic kazda z istotnych dla mnie osob.
